DId you know that dogs spend over half their day sleeping?
That’s roughly 12 – 14 hours a day, or 98 hours per week. It’s only reasonable as a modern pet parent that we let them ziz in style. Even more, the quality of their sleep is vital to brain development, a healthy immune system and memory consolidation.
HOW DO WE ENSURE OUR DOGS GET THE BEST SLEEP THEY CAN?
It’s quite simple – invest in a decent dog bed. These are my go-to non-negotiables:
- Bigger is better. Yes, the bigger the bed, the more it costs, but this is not the time to skimp on size. You want to allow your dog enough space to stretch out when it’s hot and curl up when it’s cold.
- Proper support. Make sure the bed has a good quality stuffing – and is adequately stuffed at that!
- Removable covers. If it’s machine washable it’s got my vote.
- Quality fabric. Rip and stain proof fabric is something to keep in mind when making your purchase.
- Not too heavy. I move the girls’ beds around the house a lot so the bed needs to be light enough that I don’t crack a rib when picking it up.
WHAT IS THE DOG’S LIFE EXPLORA SOFA?
I scream hallelujerr when I find products that fit into my very specific list of requirements.
I was truly amazed at the flexibility of the Dog’s Life Explorer Sofa. It’s an indoor dog bed which doubles up as your dog’s very own couch atop a couch. Sounds kinda crazy but I’m going to list its features below so stay tuned.
10 FEATURES OF THE DOG’S LIFE EXPLORER SOFA
1. It’s a couch to sit atop your couch.
As the name suggests, this bed is technically designed as a small sofa bed to put on your couch. But why? Well, if your dogs are anything like ours… muddy paws, floofy hair and drool are all part of the furniture. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll never be able to have really nice things because my girls will always mess them up somehow. That’s not entirely true though. Cue the Explorer Sofa. It’s a little spot of heaven that is designed specifically for your dog to rest its head next to you for an evening of Netflix and Chill.
2. It’s water-resistant.
Yup, you read that right. The base and outer fabric is a water-resistant canvas fabric which prevents spills and messes penetrating into your furniture upholstery.
3. It has an extra-long base drape.
This ingenious feature ensures the base of your couch is protected as well. Not sure you want to use it right away? Roll it up and clip it down with the side clips. This also acts a great playmat area which I use to give the girls their stuffed toys.
4. It has bolstered edges for optimal lounginess.
Just like a couch for humans, this bed has two bolster armrests and a backrest which are extremely padded. These ensure the sides and back of your couch are protected. Additionally, the raised edges also provide protection for your pup so they don’t fall off the edge of the couch. If your dog is anything like Willow who loves to rest her head on anything raised, they will love this feature.
5. It has a padded base.
The thick foam base provides an extra layer of comfiness when perched atop your couch.
6. The cover is removable.
It has a very well-hidden zip which enables you to fully remove the cover to pop it in the wash.
7. The fabric is excellent quality.
As mentioned before, the base and sides are water-resistant canvas. The fabric inside and top of the bolsters is a plush but durable fleece which so far has been completely void of stains.
8. It’s multifunctional.
Not only do we use this bed on our couch, but on our guest bed too. Our guest bedroom looks out onto a beautiful view which both girls really enjoy keeping watch over during the day on the high bed. I use the Explorer Sofa at the end of the bed, so they can still lie comfortably but I have peace of mind that the mattress and linen on the bed isn’t going to get ruined. I also use this bed as a playmat when I give the girls their stuffed Dog’s Life toys. This is usually a messy treat and the water-resistant features really help keep the floor clean! There’s more! Due to the water-resistant base, this bed is ideal for the occasional outside sunbask.
9. It’s lightweight.
Although we have the XL size, this bed is still relatively lightweight. I can easily pick it up with one hand and move it around the house.
10. It’s a decent size.
I’ve never had an issue finding a bed big enough for my dogs but I am aware of the struggle big dog owners face. While this bed isn’t going to comfortably fit a great dane, the XL will easily sleep a labrador. A standard Cocker Spaniel could comfortably sleep in a Medium or Large size.
DOG’S LIFE EXPLORER SOFA SIZES AND COLOURS
This bed comes in a standard grey plush with varying base canvas fabric choices of teal, purple or brown. We have the teal in XL and just love this colour.

WHY DO YOU NEED THE DOG’S LIFE EXPLORER SOFA?
I’m pretty sure you don’t need anymore convincing! The girls have been using this bed for close to two months and I’m still in love with it!
